Surgical masks are designed to prevent the spread of infection and bacteria by attempting to prevent the mask wearer from transmitting infectious agents. They do not protect the wearer from infection, but trap the bacteria released by droplets from the mouth and nose.

They have several layers of multi-filtering protection and fit snugly over the nose, mouth and chin. These masks are disposable.
